NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD

Thirteen educators have been nominated by their school communities for the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award, a program established by the Washington Post to recognize teachers who exemplify excellence in their profession. One of the nominees will be selected by a committee of parents, teachers, and administrators to represent Prince William County. The Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher will also be designated as the Prince William County Teacher of the Year. Agnes Meyer was the wife of Eugene Meyer, publisher of the Washington Post from 1933 to 1946.

Teachers who meet the criteria for the Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award are those who instill in students a desire to learn and achieve; understand the individual needs of the students; and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of subject matter and have the ability to share it effectively with students.

The Washington Post will announce 18 winners in April, one representing the private schools and 17 representing the public school systems of the Washington metropolitan community. The teacher selected from each of the participating area school districts will be honored at a reception given by the Washington Post and will receive a $3,000 award from the Washington Post Company Educational Foundation.

The nominees will be honored by the Prince William County School Board at a reception on February 4 at 5:00 in the administration building dining room at Independent Hill.
