ADULT EDUCATION EARNS OUTSTANDING EMPLOYER SPONSORED AWARD

Prince William County Public Schools Adult Education received the Outstanding Employer Sponsored Award at the Virginia Association for Adult and Continuing Education Conference at Virginia Beach in April. This award recognizes an employer's commitment to the educational advancement of its employees and a collaborative relationship with an adult education agency.

Vulcan Materials of Manassas and Prince William County Public Schools Adult Education are both winners because of their collaboration at the Vulcan's Manassas quarry operation. Vulcan provides all instructional costs and permits employees to attend class on site while they remain on the clock. The firm supports Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Educational Development (GED) and External Diploma Program (EDP) opportunities for its employees.

Bette Sneed, adult educational coordinator, accepted the award from Dr. Lennox McLendon, association director for adult education, Virginia Department of Education, at the annual banquet. Other school division adult educators attending the conference included Marilyn Uzzle, lead ABE/GED teacher, Sue Garlock, lead EDP advisor/assessor and Sue Jenkins, marketing.
