WOODBINE WINS SCHOOL OF THE YEAR AWARD
Woodbine Preschool Center in Manassas has been selected as the School of the Year in the school division's annual housekeeping awards program. The School of the Year Good Housekeeping Award was presented to Building Manager Vicki Speakes by Fred Singleton, supervisor of operations for the school division, at the annual Custodial Awards Banquet earlier this month.
The School of the Year Award is given to a school for outstanding custodial performance, management and cleanliness and for maintaining the highest score on monthly evaluations throughout the school year. Woodbine received the highest number of points of all the county's sixty-six schools and administration buildings during the school year 1997-98. More than 300 custodians maintain a total of more than 5,400,000 square feet of building space.
Housekeeping cleanliness awards are given annually to the schools and administrative facilities which attain the highest average scores on monthly evaluations. The evaluations cover all areas of a building, from the parking lots and landscaping, classrooms, gymnasiums, custodial closets and equipment and everything in between, Singleton says. Awards are given in special, high school and middle school divisions and, for elementary schools, in each of the three school-based management areas.
