HYLTON CHORAL DIRECTOR TO CONDUCT FOR BOSTON POPS

Daniel Toven, choral director of C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge since October, will serve as chorus master for the Boston Pops Orchestra during a four-concert tour this weekend.  The Boston Pops, an orchestra of international renown, features a chorus for special performances, including holiday concerts.

Toven, who conducts Hylton’s Concert Choir, Women’s Select Choir and the Troubadours, will join the Pops in Boston, and travel with them to a concert in Newark, New Jersey, among other cities.  He is currently awaiting details of the tour, including what musical selections the group will perform, but says he anticipates the performance will include holiday favorites, such as “Sleigh Ride.”

Toven, in his seventh year of teaching, came to the school division from Pittsburgh, where, in addition to teaching choral music, he served as musical director and conductor of the Mendelssohn Chorus of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  Earlier, he was music director and conductor of the Plum Creek Chorus of Pittsburgh.

“Mr. Toven is an outstanding addition to the faculty of Hylton High School and the Prince William County Public Schools,” said Fred Milbert, supervisor of music for the school division.  “We are very lucky to have him here.”
