SCHOOL BOARD HONORS ACCREDITED SCHOOLS

The Prince William County School Board will honor the principals of forty-three schools at its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18 in the School Board meeting room at the school administration complex, 14800 Joplin Road, Independent Hill.  The Virginia Department of Education recently designated the schools as fully accredited.  School Board Chairman Lucy S. Beauchamp will present a plaque to the principals.

The schools earned their accreditation status based on how well students performed on the Virginia 2002 Standards of Learning tests administered during the summer and fall of 2001 and the spring of 2002 in English, mathematics, history/social studies, and science.  The overall passing percentage in each of these subject areas must be 70 percent.  Schools have until 2007 to meet the new criteria to be fully accredited.  All Prince William county schools are currently accredited under standards in effect prior to 1997, when the new standards took effect.

The fully accredited elementary schools are Antietam, Bel Air, Bennett, Bristow Run, Cedar Point, Coles, Featherstone, Henderson, King, Lake Ridge, Loch Lomond, Marshall, Marumsco Hills, McAuliffe, Minnieville, Montclair, Mountain View, Nokesville, Occoquan, Old Bridge, Pattie, Pennington, Potomac View, Rockledge, Signal Hill, Sinclair, Springwoods, Sudley, and Westridge.

The fully accredited middle schools are Benton, Beville, Graham Park, Lake Ridge, Marsteller, Parkside, Saunders and Woodbridge.

The high schools that are fully accredited include Brentsville District, Forest Park, Hylton, Osbourn Park, Stonewall and Woodbridge.
