FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE N.R. # 112, 12/14/00 Date: December 14, 2000
TEACHER LISTED IN WHO’S WHO AMONG AMERICA’S TEACHERS Victorine Jones, 2nd and 3rd grade teacher at Penn Elementary School, is listed in the sixth edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 2000. A former student nominated Jones for the distinction because “she made a difference in her life.” “Only high school and college students who have been cited for academic excellence themselves in Who’s Who Among American High School Students and The National Dean’s List, respectively, are invited to nominate one teacher from their entire academic experience,” said Paul C. Krouse, Who’s Who publisher, in a letter to Jones. Only two and a half percent of the nation’s elementary teachers are selected for inclusion in Who’s Who, said Krouse. Jones, a Magna Cum Laude graduate from the Virginia State College in 1979, began teaching kindergarten in the Quantico School System in 1979. She joined the Prince William County School System in 1990, teaching third grade at Featherstone Elementary School. While there, Jones created and sponsored a mentoring program through a Washington Post grant. She also fostered a Big Brother program with the Gar-Field High School Boys Basketball Team. Jones has served as chairwoman for the Department of Education Technology
Grants Program, director of a Youth Symposium and as a facilitator for
numerous Multicultural Summits. In February, Jones received the George
Mason University Black Achievement Award and graduated from there in May
with a Master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision. She was
appointed as an Administrative Assistant/ESOL instructor for summer school
at Coles Elementary.
