Hylton High School Makes List Of Top 500 Schools

C.D. Hylton High School is the third of Prince William County's high schools to be listed among Newsweek magazine's top 500 high schools in America, as described in the magazine's March 13, 2000, issue. The article by Jay Mathews also ranked Prince William County's Stonewall Jackson High School as 96 among those schools "that try the hardest to involve students in [Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate] courses and tests." Stonewall Jackson was the first of two county high schools to have an International Baccalaureate program, having started its program in 1993. The Newsweek ranking is based on the number of AP or IB tests taken by all students at a school in 1999, divided by the number of graduating seniors. C.D. Hylton has 2,466 students and about 590 seniors. Stonewall Jackson has 2200 students and more than 430 seniors.

A third Prince William County high school, Woodbridge High School, located in Woodbridge, Virginia, is among the top 300 schools on Newsweek’s list of the best high schools in America. Woodbridge is the largest high school in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with 3,000 students and over 720 seniors.
