Adult Education Program Earns State Award
For the third consecutive year, the Prince William County Public Schools Adult Education Department, in partnership with Vulcan Materials Company, Manassas Quarry, has received the Exemplary Employee Sponsored Program Award from the Virginia Association for Adult and Continuing Education (VAACE). The award this year was presented at the VAACE annual conference held April 6-8 in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The award recognizes an employer’s commitment to the educational advancement of its employees and a collaborative relationship with an adult education agency. The award was presented to Bette Sneed, adult education coordinator for the school division, and to Danny Hollyfield, manager of Vulcan’s Manassas Quarry. Also attending from the school division was Marilyn Uzzle, lead teacher in the adult education program.
The collaboration between the school division and Vulcan provides a win-win situation for both organizations, said Sneed. Vulcan supplies all instructional costs and permits employees to attend class while they remain on the clock. The firm supports Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Educational Development (GED) and the External Diploma Program (EDP) opportunities for its employees.
