CYNTHIA BAIRD IS PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Cynthia Baird, mathematics teacher at Brentsville District High School, has been named Prince William County Teacher of the Year and the 2002 recipient of the Washington Post Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award.  Baird was selected from among three finalists, who also included Frances Michaels, Montclair Elementary School librarian, and Catherine Turner, who teaches accelerated and advanced placement English 10 and 11 at Woodbridge High School.  Baird will be recognized later this month at a reception at the Washington Post and will receive a plaque from the Prince William County School Board.

In October, Baird was one of four Virginia educators selected to receive a Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award of $25,000.  She earned National Board Certification for her work in the area of mathematics instruction.  Baird designed Brentsville District High School’s Integrated Algebra and Geometry Program.

A graduate of Woodbridge High School and Virginia Tech, she holds a master’s degree from George Mason University.
