EDUCATORS EARN HONORS

Several Prince William County Public Schools educators have been recognized for their accomplishments by public and private organizations around the country.  They will be honored by the Prince William County School Board at its meeting on June 28.

Wal-Mart Teachers of the Year

Walter Bailey, social studies teacher at Hylton High School, and Janice Davis, fifth grade teacher at Tyler Elementary School, have been recognized by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., as Teachers of the Year.  A grant of $500 will be awarded to each teacher’s school.  The teachers were selected for the award based on their outstanding achievement in the development and use of innovative instructional strategies and their contributions to curriculum development at the division level.

Disney American Teacher Awards

Two Prince William County Public Schools teachers have been nominated for Disney’s American Teacher Awards which recognize creativity in teaching.  Ann White, language arts teacher at Rippon Middle School, and Patti Fram, seventh grade teacher at Saunders Middle School, were nominated by community members to recognize their talent and impact on students.

Virginia’s FBLA Adviser of the Year

The Virginia Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) has named Sally Martin, chairman of the Business Education Department at Brentsville District High School, as Virginia’s FBLA Adviser of the Year.  Martin has been a FBLA adviser at Brentsville for eighteen years and was named to the National FBLA Wall of Fame in 1999. She is the Regional Director for the Germanna Region and services on the Virginia Foundation, Inc.  Martin will represent Virginia at the National Leadership Conference in California in July.


National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship


The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded Carol Blauvelt, an English teacher at Stonewall Jackson High School, a $2,800 fellowship to study with twenty-nine other teachers at Columbia University in New York this summer.  The institute, “The Worlds of the Renaissance,” is one of the summer seminars or institutes sponsored annually for teachers across the county.
