SCHOOL DIVISION BUDGET EARNS AWARD

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded Prince William County Public Schools the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the current fiscal year.  The GFOA is a professional organization for public government officials.

The approved budget for fiscal 2000 was submitted and reviewed by an expert panel.  The panel voted to award the budget the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting presented by the GFOA.  This was the first time that the school division’s budget had been submitted to the GFOA for evaluation.

According to Robert Ferrebee, associate superintendent for management for the school division, “This award not only acknowledges the excellent work done by our Finance Department in preparing the budget, but also reflects well on the school division’s overall financial planning and management.  The published document meets program criteria as a policy document, as an operations guide, as a financial plan, and as a communications device,” Ferrebee said.  “Receiving this award on our first submission is also a significant accomplishment.”

The Finance Department will be recognized for its accomplishment by the Prince William County School Board at its June 28 meeting.
