NEW DOMINION SCHOOL RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S AWARD

The New Dominion Alternative School’s Learn and Serve program was selected by a panel of judges to receive the 2001 Governor’s Community Service and Volunteerism Award for an Outstanding National Service program.  This award is one of eleven Governor’s Community Service and Volunteerism Awards in Virginia.  The Governor’s Awards recognize the valuable volunteer contributions made by tireless groups, individuals and families across the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Commission on National and Community Service is charged by the Governor to recognize the volunteer contributions of Virginia citizens.  Seven representatives from the New Dominion Alternative School will be presented with their award at a banquet on Friday, November 9, 2001.  The dinner and ceremony will be held at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Virginia.

The New Dominion Learn and Serve program was selected for its contributions as a
National Service Program and for its accomplishments as a 2001 National Service-Learning Leader School.  In the last three years, over 200 New Dominion students have contributed at least 5,360 hours of service to the Prince William County community.
