POTOMAC STUDENTS’ ARTWORK DISPLAYED IN PERMANENT COLLECTION

Thanks to Lockheed Martin Corporation, one of Potomac High School’s corporate sponsors, ten students will have an opportunity to show their artwork at the Manassas site, located at 9500 Godwin Drive.  The opening of the Value Studies Art Show will be held on Tuesday, October 29 at 8:00 a.m. at the third annual Superintendents’ Breakfast Roundtable.

Art Teacher Sharon Boyle selected ten pieces from over 125 artworks assigned to her Art I and Art II students.  Students chosen include Najiba Murad, Ashley Metts, Jessica Link, Alyssa Diamentis, Regina McCannon, Billy Kirk, Thanhye Le, Crystal Talmadge, Jessica Willett, and Partha Shastri.  Their artwork will become part of a permanent exhibit at Lockheed Martin.

Boyle is excited about the opportunity to forge the partnership between Potomac High School and Lockheed Martin.  The company provided the frames for the pieces. “I think it is important to let the community know that teaching the arts and student production in the arts has been shown to build skills that businesses value, by encouraging students to think across traditional disciplines,” said Boyle.  Her art students are challenged to learn how to integrate knowledge and to "think outside the box,” and pursue goals that were not conceptualized at the outset of a project.  For more information about the exhibit, please contact Boyle at 703-441-4300.
