Pat Puttre, principal of Saunders Middle School, was a runner-up for the Greater Washington Reading Council’s Principal of the Year for Reading Award.  

The nomination was made in recognition of Puttre’s support of and commitment to the reading program at Saunders.  She helped plan and implement the program, which alternates intense small group instruction with computer-based skill support. Materials were purchased and funds were designated for a new reading resource area.  Puttre has enlisted the help of retired teachers, other school division retirees, and high school volunteers to support this instructional program. 

Fran Guthrie, reading specialist at Saunders, nominated Puttre, who was one of three administrators recognized on November 10 at the GWRC Conference at the Dulles Hilton and the only one at the secondary level.
