SCHOOL BOARD TO SALUTE OUTANDING TEACHER AWARD NOMINEES

The Prince William County School Board will honor the school division's nineteen nominees for the Washington Post 2000 Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award at a reception on Wednesday, February 2 at 5:00 p.m.  The reception will be held in the administration building dining room at the School Administration Complex, 14800 Joplin Road, Independent Hill.  The press is encouraged to attend.

The Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award program was established by the Post to recognize teachers who exemplify excellence in their profession.  One of the nominees will be selected by a panel of parents, teachers and administrators to represent Prince William County. Teachers who meet the criteria for the this award are those who instill in students a desire to learn and achieve; understand the individual needs of students; and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of subject matter and have the ability to share it effectively with students.  The Post will announce eighteen winners in April, one representing the private schools and seventeen representing the public school systems of the Washington metropolitan area.

The teachers nominated, their curriculum area or grade, and their schools are as follows: Lauren Adams, first grade, Springwoods Elementary School; Regina Anderson, seventh grade science, Rippon Middle School; Walter Bailey, ninth grade World Studies I (Humanities) and AP European History, Hylton High School; Gail Brook Boster, speech/language therapy, West Gate Elementary; Maria R. Bowman, English 9, Spanish 5, Spanish 5 AP, Spanish I; Osbourn Park High School; Betty Rowell Clark, fourth grade, Bennett Elementary School; Janice Geldermann Davis, fifth grade: Inclusionary-Learning Disabled, Tyler Elementary; Mary Haley, second grade, Rockledge Elementary School; Mary Devlin Hayden, seventh grade language arts; Graham Park Middle School; Edythe House, work and family studies, Graham Park Middle School; and Margaret Ellen Lenk, sixth grade - Social Studies, language arts, and reading, Stonewall Middle School.

Also, James P. Lyng, eighth grade world history, Woodbridge Middle School; Terry Miller, second grade - language arts, Nokesville Elementary School; Dawn L. Moulen, English 11/freshman seminar, Woodbridge High School; Judy D.
