The Virginia School Counselor Association has selected Julie Chamberlain, Stonewall Middle School and Stonewall High School International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme Coordinator, as Member of the Year.

Chamberlain has been a special education art teacher, a second grade teacher, a professional school counselor, and the Stonewall Middle School guidance director. She teaches courses at George Mason University as an adjunct professor in the graduate counseling department. She has received several other counseling awards including the Humanitarian and Caring Person Award from the Peninsula School Counselor Association, and the Middle School Counselor of the Year Award from both the Peninsula and the Virginia School Counselor Associations.
Chamberlain received her undergraduate degree in elementary and art education from SUNY Brockport in New York. She received her M.Ed. from George Mason University and a second master’s degree in Counseling from SUNY Oswego in New York.

Chamberlain was president of the VSCA for the 2003-2004 year. At the recognition ceremony for her award, current VSCA President Carol Kaffenberger said of her, “Julie has been a leader, role model, and an advocate for school counselors.” During her year as president, Chamberlain advocated for professional school counselors, made numerous presentations, encouraged emerging leaders and invited counselors from around the state to become involved in VSCA. Under her leadership, VSCA won an award at the American School Counselor Association Conference 2004 for the most growth in ASCA membership in the country.
