The National Achievement® Scholarship Program is a privately financed academic competition for outstanding Black American high school students. Scholarships offered in 2005 are supported by corporations, company foundations, professional associations, and by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the National Achievement Program. NMSC is an independent, not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. All winners are chosen on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments.
