The U.S. Department of Education funds are awarded by states to schools with concentrations of poor students. The 21st Century Community Learning Center Program is a key component of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The grants provide opportunities for students and their families to continue to learn new skills and discover new abilities after the school day has ended. Kilby Elementary School,
the first Prince William County school to receive a grant of this type,
is currently in year two of their 21st Century grant program.
