BRENTSVILLE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL SELECTED AS MODEL SCHOOL

Brentsville District High School has been selected by the International Center for Leadership in Education as one of 25 high schools nationwide to be studied as part of their five-year initiative in cooperation with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). The purpose of the project is to identify and analyze the nation's most successful high school practices and policies for achieving a rigorous and relevant education for all students. As part of this initiative, Brentsville District High School will be showcased at the 13th annual Model Schools Conference, held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The conference runs from June 26 to June 29, 2005.

The Leadership Center identified Brentsville District High School as a high school that represents the innovative thinking and best practices that should be shared with educators across the country. On May 17 and 18, a delegation from the International Center visited the school to prepare a case study for the conference proceedings. The case study will document the instructional and organizational strategies that have proved to be of greatest value in moving students to academic success.

A representative from Brentsville District High School will present the case study at the 2005 Model Schools Conference. For its participation, the school will receive a five-year membership, funded by the high school initiative, in the International Center's Successful Practices Network. The network provides a structure for ongoing guidance, technical assistance, and resources to facilitate continuous improvement and sustained success.
