RELEASE N.R.
#319, 6/07/05 Date: June
7, 2005 BRISTOW RUN ELEMENTARY WINS COUNSELING PROGRAM AWARD Bristow Run Elementary School has met the criteria and been selected as a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). Schools from across the United States were invited to apply and the scoring process is very stringent. Bristow Run is one of eight schools to achieve RAMP status since the program’s inception in 2004. Mary Pat McCartney, Guidance Department chair, and school counselors Christine Marshall and Robin Vaneman will be recognized locally by the Prince William County School Board and will also attend a special ceremony this month honoring all of the awarded schools at the ASCA conference in Orlando, Florida. Andrew Buchheit is the Principal at Bristow Run Elementary School. The RAMP designation is awarded to schools where counseling programs are solidly based on criteria set in the ASCA National Model and the association believes that the implementation of comprehensive counseling programs in all schools across the nation is a vital step in the transformation of our education system. “The 2005 RAMP honorees are to be commended for their commitment to students and the profession,” said Judy Bowers, Ed.D., ASCA’s 2004-2005 President. “This designation not only distinguishes these schools, but it also encourages school counselors nationwide to continue to strive for success.” For information on the program,
