TWO SCHOOL AND BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS RECEIVE DOE AWARD

Partnership Prince William, the Business Partnership Office for the Prince William County Public Schools, announces that the Virginia Department of Education Office of Career and Technical Education Services awarded honors to two Prince William County Public Schools partnership programs during an awards luncheon held on June 6, 2005 in Richmond, Virginia.
Elizabeth Russell, Director of the Office of Career and Technical Education Services for the Virginia Department of Education presented Prince William County Public Schools with the Regional Group Award for its partnership with the Prince William Area Family Economic Success Partnership. This initiative provided tax preparation training to 200 accounting students from nine Prince William County high schools. The students then worked as volunteer tax preparers for the community’s low to moderate income workers.

Caroline Martin, Chairman of the Virginia Advisory Committee for Career and Technical Education, presented BAE Systems with the Business and Industry Partnership School Division Award for its Women in Technology partnership with the Prince William County Public Schools Career and Technical Education Office. This partnership program provided mentoring for junior and senior women who demonstrated strong math and science skills during a 15-week job shadowing experience.
