BRISTOW RUN ELEMENTARY STUDENT WINS FIRST PLACE WITH ARTWORK

Allison Huppert, fifth grade student at Bristow Run Elementary School, won the Virginia School Boards Association Spring Regional Forum Art Contest with her artwork, "Snow Landscape with Birch Trees," a watercolor. Her art teacher is Karen White. Sompaseuth Chounlamany, a student at Parkside Middle School, won second place with "Lady at the Market of Vieing Chanh," a charcoal drawing. His art teacher is John Pino. Robert Michaels, a student at Forest Park High School, won third place with "Seascape," a watercolor. Michael's art teacher is K.C. Farrow.

Winning selections receive a ribbon and are framed and affixed with an engraved plate by the VSBA for display in the offices of the Secretary of Education, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the Virginia School Boards Association on a rotating basis. Artwork is judged by a three-to-five member jury selected by the VSBA regional chairman and often consists of regional officers, other school board members of the region, and art teachers. Artwork is returned to the school division at the next 2006 Spring Regional Forum.
