22, 2005 MULLEN’S ESOL TEACHER RECOGNIZED AS OUTSTANDING SCHOLAR Lisa Hobson, ESOL specialist at Mullen Elementary School, has received the 2005 Virginia Scholar Award from the state organization of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was nominated by faculty at University of Mary Washington as an outstanding woman scholar in the field of education and for the potential she shows for becoming an outstanding educator. The Virginia Scholar Award is a project of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society in the state of Virginia, which was the seventh state to charter under the founding bylaws (1934). Delta Kappa Gamma, Greek words meaning key women teachers, was organized in 1929 for the purpose of uniting women educators in efforts toward better professional preparation, recognition of women's work in the teaching profession, and scholarships for those needing aid to improve their professional preparation. Hobson attended Mary Washington
University where she received her B.A. in child development and where
she will complete her M.Ed. with a concentration in teaching English
as a second language this year. ###
