TEACHERS HONORED WITH KENNEDY CENTER CERTIFICATES OF STUDY

Dorothy Fricke, a world history teacher at Graham Park Middle School, and Flavius Hall, a member of the Instructional Support Team of Prince William County Public Schools, were honored at the Kennedy Center with Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Certificates of Study. The Kennedy Center program recognized 18 metropolitan area educators who have continued their professional development in the arts by participating in 30 or more hours of study during a two-year period in the Kennedy Center’s Professional Development Opportunities for Teachers program. A certificate level is earned for every 30 hours of study. Fricke received a Level VI certificate for 180 hours of study and Hall achieved a Level XIV certificate for 420 hours of study.

Educators attend workshops that focus on enhancing teachers’ knowledge of and appreciation for the arts and on developing skills for teaching about the arts or teaching other subject areas through the arts. More than 1,800 teachers from approximately 14 public school systems and private schools in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area attend professional development classes at the Center each year. The 40-50 events are designed for teachers of Pre K through grade 12 and address issues of teaching students with diverse needs.
