Achievements which enabled Springwoods to be selected as a School of
Excellence were the following:

At Springwoods staff development focused on literacy and learning
and included Reading Recovery, SPOT Training, Guided Reading Instruction
and other programs.

A team of teachers designed an award-winning tutorial program supported
by area churches, senior citizens, and high school students and an SOL
Social Studies remediation program

The parent-school partnership included several methods to increase communication,
as well as training of parents as tutors and lab assistants.
