SCHOOL BOARD
SEVEN COUNTY SCHOOLS RECOGNIZED FOR EXCELLENCE

Seven county schools were honored by the Superintendent and School Board as Schools of Excellence for reaching 1999-2000 school year performance targets, and for meeting several of those targets at an exceptional level.

The schools were Osbourn Park High School, Bristow Run Elementary School, Henderson Elementary School, Lake Ridge Elementary School, Marshall Elementary School, Mountain View Elementary School, and Rockledge Elementary School.

Recognition and celebration activities at these schools launched the school division's new Accolades and Applause School Recognition Program.

During special programs attended by all school employees, the schools received a commemorative plaque, a replica of a School of Excellence flag, and a $1,000 cash award.  The original flags will be presented to the school principals at a televised School Board meeting so that a wide audience of school communities can see the presentation.

School employees received a Certificate of Excellence and a desk clock.  The clock is a way to thank the employees “for the tremendous amount of time” each spent making their school a School of Excellence, said Superintendent Edward L. Kelly.

To qualify for a School of Excellence designation, elementary schools must meet 15 school performance targets or meet 13 targets, with four at the exceptional level.

Middle schools must meet 9 targets or meet 8 targets, with two at the exceptional level; and high schools must meet 11 targets or meet 10 targets, with three at the exceptional level.

Performance targets are components of the school division’s Quality Management Plan and include such measures as test scores and attendance.
