Parents, please join us for a day of fun, food, musical performances, Parade of Nations, Multicultural Stations, art work inspired by major artists and door prizes.   It should be a day of   FUN, FUN, FUN!
Sneakers and Clothing
Sneakers or rubber soled shoes are the shoes for PE and recess.   Students who wear flip- flops or sandals without heel straps will not be permitted to participate in PE or recess.   Students who wear sandals with heal straps may be permitted to participate in limited recess activities, but NOT PE.   Parents, you can also put a pair of sneakers in your child's book bag.   Sneakers with wheels are not allowed.

Spring is coming!   Please make sure you read the Code of Behavior and the Panther PAWS Program on proper school clothing.   Spaghetti strap shirts, see through shirts tank tops (boys), short skirts or hi-cut shorts are not allowed.   We may ask you to bring a change of clothes for your child of he/she is not properly dressed for school.   A simple rule is, "No child should wear a skirt or shorts that are above their arms' length".

SOL Camp
SOL Camp will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 3:45pm – 4:50pm.   SOL Camp will continue until May 14, 2008.   The goal of SOL Camp is to help students prepare for the SOL exams in Mathematics and Language Arts.   All students will receive a snack and drink when they arrive to class.   There will be one activity bus to drop students home.   If you are picking up your child from school, please arrive at 4:50pm sharp.
Library News
Students who participated in the Virginia readers Choice program voted for their favorite book during RIF.   The VRC winning books will be announced in May.
School Wide Title I Program
We are seeking two or three parent volunteers to sit on an advisory committee to help facilitate, develop, and write a school wide Title I plan for the 2008-2009 school year. Currently, we provide Title I services to students in kindergarten-fifth grade. Students receiving these services are pulled out for 30 minutes a day for small group instruction in Reading or Math by our Reading and Math Specialists. For the 2008-2009 school year we are looking to implement a model whereby all students at Bel Air Elementary will receive services by a Title I Reading or Math Specialist via small group instruction or in an inclusion classroom with two teachers.   If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Mr. Mitchell at 703-670-4050 or email mitchemm@pwcs.edu.

Notes from the Nurse
5th grade parents, the Tdap booster is required for entry into 6th grade.   Please get your child immunized BEFORE the start of the next school year.
New Boundaries
On January 16th, the School Board approved boundary plan 3C1.   Based on this plan, Bel Air Elementary will lose all the "D" streets in our current boundary.   All students in the "D" streets section will attend Neabsco Elementary for the 2008-2009 school year.   Parents, if your child is in the fourth grade this year, school board policy allows them to finish their fifth grade year at Bel Air Elementary.   This means you will be responsible for driving your child to Bel Air next year.   Siblings will NOT automatically attend Bel Air under this provision; however, if you have a fifth grade student and other siblings, you may apply for a transfer.   Your request may be granted, provided we have the space.

In addition to losing all the "D" streets in our attendance area, Bel Air will gain Fillarete St from Neabsco ES and Bakersfield St from Dale City ES.   Our projected enrollment of 585 students will drop to 498 students for the 2008-2009 school year.
