Advisory Council Bylaws
Adopted Spring 2002

Failure is not an Option

Purpose

The bylaws will provide the Bel Air Advisory council with an established set of rules and procedures under which to function.
Do a needs assessment of the school, which shall include reviewing all student test data and surveys.
Write an Annual or Biennial School Plan based on established goals and priorities.
Write goals and identify strategies for the school year.
Review, monitor and implement the school plan and budget

Function

The Advisory Council at the conclusion of each meeting will establish a proposed agenda for the next meeting. Any member of the Advisory Council, parents, students, or individual teachers may suggest items to be included on the agenda.

Decisions of the Advisory Council shall be made when there is a consensus of the members.

The advisory Council Meetings are open to the public. Parents and teachers are encouraged to attend. Each meeting will have a period of time designated as open forum to allow any party to address the council.

Officers

The chairperson and the secretary will be selected on a voluntary basis. The term of office will begin in the fall of the school year. The term of office for members of the council will be 2 years.

The chairperson shall preside at all meetings and have general supervision of the Advisory Council.

The secretary will keep an accurate account of the proceedings and take attendance. Minutes of each meeting will be approved by the council and made available to members.

In the event there are no members to replace outgoing staff members, the principal will appoint members for that staff position.

Responsibilities

All participants should be fully advised as to the function of the council, its bylaws, and the responsibility of each individual. Each new member to the council will be given a copy of the bylaws, current operating budget, and the school plan.
These bylaws may be amended by the council as necessary.
