Each year the American Library Association honors outstanding children's authors and illustrators by awarding the prestigious Caldecott and Newbery Medals. The Caldecott Medal is awarded for the most distinguished children's book illustrator. The Newbery Medal is awarded for the most distinguished contribution to American Literature for Children.
