WELCOME TO MS. GASSMANS' FIRST GRADE CLASS

Welcome to a new school year.   I’m Kelly Gassman and I earned my B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Niagara University.   In addition, I have a Masters Degree in Literacy from the University of Buffalo in New York State.   This is my first year at Belmont.   I love being a teacher. My greatest joy is to watch your children succeed and develop a passion and thirst for learning. I’d like my class to become a safe haven where children come to learn, express their creativity, exchange ideas and respect each other.

Please take advantage of every opportunity to read with your children. It can be as simple as reading street signs, menus, advertisements, the sports page or cookbooks. The more comfortable they become, the more they will enjoy reading independently.   Teaching a child to read is a shared responsibility between home and school.   To meet the needs of your child, our first grade team uses flexible readings groups for Language Arts.   This is a wonderful method to increase their reading skills and help them advance in their literacy life.

It is extremely important for us to maintain good communication in order for your child to thrive and enjoy school.   Don’t hesitate to leave a message for me at school or email me at gassmakj@pwcs.edu.   I look forward to meeting you all soon.
