INCLEMENT WEATHER AND ITS EFFECTS ON SCHOOL HOURS

Inclement weather conditions may cause schools to be closed under the following emergency conditions:

Schools Closed: The traditional announcement, “Schools are closed due to inclement weather,” will be used when road conditions are so severe that it is impractical to operate school.   This will be announced over the local and regional radio and television stations.   Code Red or Code Green designations are applicable to custodial, secretarial, and administrative staffs only.

Early Closing: Early closing will be used when weather conditions are suitable for school opening, but an unforeseen change occurs during the day making school operation hazardous.   An early closing announcement will be made as soon as possible to the staff.   Every effort will be made to contact each student’s parent, guardian, or babysitter listed on the Phone Tree Information sheet.

Late Opening: Late opening will be announced over local and regional radio and television stations when, in the best judgment of school officials, the regularly scheduled school opening time would constitute a hazard.   A two-hour late opening would mean that students transported by buses regularly scheduled for pickup at 9:15 a.m. would be picked up at 11:15 a.m.   Teachers also report two hours late in this case.   Teachers would be expected to report to school by 11:15 a.m. in the case of a two-hour delayed opening.   Students would eat lunch on their regularly scheduled lunchtime in the event of a two-hour delayed opening.
