Learn about the transition from Middle to High School
Beville Middle School along with GarField, Hylton, and Osbourn Park High School would like
to invite parents and students in the eighth grade to the Beville Middle School cafeteria
on February 7, 2008 from 7-8PM. Representatives from Gar-Field High School, Hylton High
School, and Osbourn Park High School will be available to assist students and their parents
with the transition process and explain the opportunities available to the students going
into 9th grade. There will be time allotted for parents and students to ask questions.

The BVMS Guidance Department announces the creation of The Bobcat PROWLERS Group
The Bobcat PROWLERS Group is designed to be "a motivational, inspirational
and behavior modification program aimed at assisting all Beville Middle School
male students with achieving academic success."
Group activities will involve one hour after school sessions every other Tuesday beginning
December 4, 2007 from 3:00-4:00 pm and will last throughout the academic school year.

Submission of a parent/guardian-signed permission form is required for attendance.

Parenting Classes
- Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP),
to assist parents with basic parenting issues (also taught in Spanish),
- Living Apart Parenting Together (LAPT)),
to encourage parents to work out custody and child support situations without putting their children in the middle, and
- When Families Get Angry (WFGA)
to understand and constructively deal with anger.

Use Homework to Teach Organization Skills
- Encourage your child to use the "Agenda Book" to write down assignments. Review the agenda daily.
- Encourage your child to estimate how long it will take to complete each assignment.
- Help your child to learn how to plan ahead. They should work on major assignments or review for tests ahead of time.
- Encourage your child to review class notes and add details or make corrections.
- Help your child increase reading skills by having them read for at least 15 minutes per evening.
- Help your child proofread and check for accuracy in their answers.
- Encourage your child to space studying over several sessions instead of cramming the night before.
