The FUN-damentals!
Dear Parents,
Welcome to
room 102 and first grade. As many of you
know, this is my first year teaching this grade and I am just as excited as
your student about this new adventure. I
know that my experience teaching third grade will give me an advantage in
helping your student prepare for their school careers. I look forward to an eventful year getting
to know your child and I will do everything I can to encourage your child to
adapt to this new experience.
I believe that the success of a student is aided by
their parent’s interest and involvement in their school life. I encourage you to read with your child as
often as possible, as reading is a main focus in this upcoming year. I also would like to invite you to feel free
to communicate with me whenever you feel that you need to. Getting to know you and your family is an
important part of my teaching style. I
can be reached at:

There are also many opportunities for parents to
become involved in classroom activities. This is a very rewarding job for
anyone who has even a little time to spare.
If you are interested in working in the classroom please let me know as
soon as possible.
I have attached a survival guide for you and your
student. You will find information on
day-to-day activities. You can also get this
information from my classroom website which can be found on www.pwcs.edu.

first day of school. I will house the
snack in a closet and let you know when our supply is getting low. Please try not to send candy or other high
sugar items. Some snacks that have
worked well in the past are goldfish, crackers, granola bars, and cereal. Thanks in advace
for sending a snack! If you would like,
your child may keep a water bottle at school, but please avoid sending juice
for snack.
Take
Home Folder
Students will bring home a Panther Folder containing
papers and projects they have completed in class as well as notices from the
teacher and office daily. Information
from the office goes home with the oldest child in the family. Please be sure to send the Panther Folder
back to school with your child each morning.
Homework
and Nightly
Students will receive a weekly homework packet. It will go home on Friday. Students will be responsible for turning in
page one on Monday, page two on Tuesday, etc.
Please review the homework with your child whenever possible.
Students must also read at least 15 – 20 minutes
every school night as part of their homework.
Each child will bring home a book or two in a “Book Bag” each
night. Their reading should be recorded
on the Reading Log and signed by a parent.
Return the “Book Bag” to school daily.
Please encourage your child to read aloud with you. It makes such a difference!
