Hearing Impaired Highlights for February
It is wonderful to see how many of our Coles students and staff, including our administrators, are interested in learning sign language! Many of the students here at Coles have been in classes with our Hearing Impaired students since Kindergarten, and so have had a great deal of exposure to this beautiful language. Our Sign Language Interpreters are currently interpreting the morning announcements two days a week along with our 5th grader, who is demonstrating the new signs on the morning video broadcast.
Belatedly, we want to share a December highlight. Our students were treated to a holiday celebration by the American Sign Language Club from Woodbridge Senior High School. It was a great opportunity to mix and mingle, and practice using holiday signs with the “big kids”. These exceptional high school students planned all of the fun and purchased the goodies themselves, and loved doing it!
Did your children mention anything about our classroom being flooded on Jan. 26th? What a shock we had walking into that first thing in the morning! Our air conditioning/heating unit had broken and hot water had leaked across the floor. Our students didn’t even complain about having to spend the day in another classroom (luckily a room close by was empty that day), and they worked as hard as usual – what troopers!
Stay Warm,
Mrs. Stacy and Mrs. Lemaster
