Kindergarten Orientation

Miss Hauptman and Mrs. Alston

2007 – 2008

Welcome to kindergarten! Today we will try to give you an idea of how things work at school.

Four things your child will do when they first come in the room in the morning.

·         Take his/her book bag to his/her desk. Check the green daily folder for any important papers from home. These papers go on Mrs. Alston’s desk. Your child puts his/her green folder in his/her cubbie.

·         Hang up his/her book bag. All coats and sweaters will go in book bags.

·         Indicate their lunch choice for the day.

·         Put their name on the attendance stick.

Important information:

    1. Volunteers – We love volunteers. We can use an extra pair of hands at lunch time, during centers, or Xeroxing. You can even help by cutting and stapling at home for us. Just send me a note.
    2. Allergies -If your child has any allergies please let us and the office know.
    3. Name - If your child goes by another name please let us know.
    4. Picture release – We take many pictures of the children during the year to create class books for your children to enjoy at home and school.  All photos will be sent home in the bound book in June.  You must sign the form sent home in the orientation packet.
    5. Labels – Please write your child’s name on all clothing, book bags, lunch boxes, notes, money, etc.
    6. Lunch – We will be eating lunch in the cafeteria. Your child has the option of bringing a lunch from home or purchasing a school lunch. If your child buys lunch once in a while- it is best to send in money to have on their lunch card instead of sending in money on the days they buy. Please refer to the menu that will come home monthly as to the choices for the day.   All questions concerning lunch need to be addressed to Mrs. Betty Kedzo in the cafeteria. We do not count or keep track of money sent in for lunches.
    7. Snack – Afternoon snack is optional. If you would like your child to have a snack, please send in one small item. No drinks please. The children may get water from the water fountain near the room. Your child may bring in a water bottle and keep it in his/her bookbag. Your child may get a drink from their water bottle any time during the day.
    8. Recess – We will be going outside at least once a day, sometimes twice. Please think of comfort and function when you dress your child. Kindergarten is a very active place and we tend to get dirty and play hard. The county dress code will give you some guidelines.
    9. School bus – All bus passes are given out from the office. We must have a note from you any time your child will be going home in a different manner. We send in the notes with the attendance every morning. If we do not have a note from you we must send your child home on his/her regular bus.  Please put all bus notes in the green folder to avoid confusion. Your child is responsible for putting the notes on Mrs. Alston’s desk. We do not go through the green folders or bookbags.
    10. Bathroom – Your child may go to the bathroom at any time. He/She does not need to ask permission
    11. Birthdays – You may send in a special snack for your child’s birthday. All birthday snacks are eaten during our lunch time. I suggest one cookie or small cupcake per student. We currently have 27 students. No drinks please.
    12. Library- Once the library is ready to have kindergarten students check out books your child may return and check a book out once a week. All library questions should be address to Mrs. Heilman our librarian.

Thank you for coming to kindergarten orientation today. Mrs. Alston and I are very excited about this year and are looking forward to getting to know you. It is very important that parents and teachers communicate. The more we talk the more successful your child will be in school. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. We will try our best to answer you as soon as possible.
