Kindergarten Orientation

Mrs. Rucker and Mrs. Hupman

2007 – 2008

Welcome to kindergarten! Today we will try to give you an idea of how things work at school.

We will cover academic information on Back to School Night 9/17/07.

Four things your child will do when they first come in the room in the morning.

·         Place his/her green folder in the white basket. All notes, checks and money should be placed in the folder. Parents, please place all checks and money in an envelope or zip lock bag so your child’s account can be credited in the cafeteria. Be sure to write your child’s name and the amount on the envelope or baggie before placing it in the green folder.

·         Hang up his/her book bag. All coats and sweaters will go in book bags or a plastic bag with a name that you may send from home for winter gear.

·         Go to the bathroom. We remind them to “flush and wash”.

·         Indicate their lunch choice for the day.

Important information:

    1. Volunteers – I will start my parent volunteer program sometime in November.  There will be a sign up list at Back to School night.
    2. Bus number - Please look on the bus lists outside in the hall and find your child’s bus stop and correct bus number.  PLEASE check that it is correct on the bus tag.
    3. Allergies -If your child has any allergies please let us know by writing it on the list on the easel.
    4. Name - If your child goes by another name let us know by writing it on the list on the easel.
    5. Picture release – We take many pictures of the children during the year to create class books for your children to enjoy at home and school.  All photos will be sent home in the bound book in June.  You must sign the enclosed form giving us permission to take your child’s photo or I will not be able to include them in any class books.
    6. School folders- Please complete the enclosed forms, front and back and return them to school on the first day. They are important.
    7. Labels – Please write your child’s name on all clothing, book bags, lunch boxes, notes, money, etc.
    8. Lunch – We will be eating lunch in the cafeteria. If your child does not want to eat a school lunch feel free to send one in. If you wish to buy occasionally it would be best to send in money for them to have on their lunch card instead of sending in money on the days they buy. Please refer to the menu that will come home monthly as to the choices for the day.   All questions concerning lunch need to be addressed to Mrs. Betty Kedzo in the cafeteria. We do not count or keep track of money sent in for lunches.
    9. Snack – Due to our early lunch we will be having a snack every day. I would like to place everyone’s name on a calendar and let them bring in 26 snacks on their assigned day. Healthy snacks would be best, some suggestions are, raisins, pretzels, granola bars, graham crackers, etc. No drinks please. The children may get water from the water fountain near the room. If you would like to send in cups with the snack so they can get a cup of water that might be a good idea also. If you choose not to participate please let me know so I can leave your name off the list.
    10. Recess – We will be going outside at least once a day, sometimes twice. Please think of comfort and function when you dress your child. Kindergarten is a very active place and we tend to get dirty and play hard. The county dress code will give you some guidelines.
    11. School bus – All bus passes are given out from the office. We must have a note from you any time your child will be going home in a different manner. We send in the notes with the attendance every morning. If we do not have a note from you we must send your child home on his/her regular bus.  Please put all bus notes in the green folder to avoid confusion.
    12. Bathroom – Your child may go to the bathroom at any time. He/She does not need to ask permission
    13. Birthdays – We will try to always place you on the snack calendar on or near the “special day”. You may send in a snack of your child’s choice for that day.  No cakes and no chocolate cupcakes please.
    14. Library- Once the library is ready to have kindergarten students check out books your child may return and check a book daily or he/she may keep it for a week.  All library questions should be address to Mrs. Heilman our librarian.
    15. Classroom needs – As the year progresses there are a few things we will need. If you would like to send in these items at any time during the year it would be greatly appreciated.

Hand sanitizer (ex.GermX, Purell)

Thank you for coming to kindergarten orientation today. Mrs. Hupman and I are very excited about this year and are looking forward to getting to know you. It is very important that parents and teachers communicate. The more we talk the more successful your child will be in school. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. We will try our best to answer you as soon as possible.
