Emerging Technologies

I can't remember the first computer that I used at home. I can barely remember the first computer that I bought (though I  clearly remember the first computer I broke...I don't recommend leaving laptops on the ground where people can step on them. It is extremely difficult to use a laptop with a smashed screen). But I do remember that the computers that I used when I was younger had much less memory than one can find these days in an IPOD or Sandisk photo card(the hard drives were measured in megabytes, not gigabytes). I am constantly amazed by the great leaps in technology that have occurred over the past two decades.
Part of the joy of teaching technology is taking an active role in putting emerging technologies into the hands of students and allowing them the opportunity to try out new experiences.  Recently, students in the upper grades have had the chance to use digital cameras. They will be learning how to integrate digital pictures with tmouse and interact with the computer screen.
As technology continues to evolve, I look forward to students being at the forefront of new devices and techniques that can help increase their learning. Technology is a poweful tool that can help students expand their minds and learn better.  I know that I continue to learn more from technology and through technology. As the schools of the future come closer to the schools of  today, I am pleased to know that our students are staying on the forefront of emerging technologies.
