Gifted ProgramGail Hubbard, Supervisor of Gifted Education and Special Programs, and members of the gifted education staff presented two sessions at the National Association for Gifted Children(NAGC) Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Gifted Program

In their first session, Prince William gifted staff described their work with Project Promise, a four-year Javitts grant to assist regular education teachers, K-3, to recognize giftedness in children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. A second purpose is to develop hands-on instructional materials that will encourage learning behaviors in these children to enable them to work successfully in gifted programs.

A second session, entitled "Casting a Wider Net: A Multi-Criteria Identification Process", reviewed the current multiple-criteria gifted education identification practices of Prince William County. Participants were introduced to this system of finding underserved gifted learners, and were able to see the success of the program over the past three years.

Gifted Program

This session generated enormous enthusiasm, and Price William County has been able to share forms and procedures with school divisions across the United States.
