Welcome to King Library. I'm Mrs. Hobbs and this is my eleventh year at
King. A little background – I have a degree in elementary education from
Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a graduate degree in education
with a concentration in library science from James Madison University.
I've worked in public libraries and a medical school library as well as a
middle school before I came here. I'd have to say my favorite hobby is (can
you guess?) reading!
We have a very busy library here at King. We circulate over 35,000
items each year. Part of our program uses Accelerated Reader – students
read a book on their reading level and take a short computerized test on it.
The scores they get on Accelerated Reader make up 20% of their Language
Arts grade each quarter.
A lot goes on in our library. At the end of each year we have a huge
used book sale. We sell all the books that have been donated throughout
the year for 10 cents or a quarter. That way we can make sure all students
have plenty to read over the summer. We have ten computers available for
students on which they do research, take tests, and look up books. And of
course we spend lots of time just reading all the great books – everything
from Clifford the Big Red Dog to Harry Potter.
