I you are now enrolled in the strings program, thank you for signing the contract and making the commitment.
Learning an instrument may be difficult at times, but I know you can do it!
I know many of you will be visiting a music store this week. We will begin using the instruments beginning the
week of September 18th. I suggest renting over buying an instrument the first year because if anything goes wrong,
the store will fix it and usually supply a loaner instrument during the repair. Since your child is growing, you will
be able to trade it in for a larger size if necessary. The shop will also measure your child and fit him or her with an
appropriate instrument.
There are a few cellos and basses available to rent from the school for $60 per year. These are large and you must
arrange for the transportation of the instrument to and from school on strings days. If your child plays cello or
bass, you may consider sharing a school rental for $30 and also having another cello at home for practice. Students
on the free lunch program may obtain an instrument for free from the school. Make sure you fill out and return
the contract and free instrument form this week!
At first you may feel overwhelmed with the new instrument and high expectations, but don't worry. I'll teach you
everything you need to know. As long as you are practicing everyday, you will have no problem keeping up with
the class.
