Animal Adaptations The Bare Facts First Grade Created by: Cheryl Phillips This activity will take two 45 minutes sessions. It would be helpful to create a new library in Kidspiration entitled: Adaptations. That way the students will be able to find what they need a bit sooner. Introduction: In this activity, students will learn about simple animal adaptations including how they look, what they eat, where they live and some basic behaviors. They will realize that everything, animals and plants have adaptations. Process: In the classroom discuss with the students animal adaptations. As a class, access Animal Habitats and test your knowledge on habitats with the beaver.
Task:
After discussing adaptations with the class, they
will open Kidspiration and go to the 'Picture' theme. Once
there, they will access the picture library and select a bear, (it's
easier to have everyone do the same animal and most can talk about a
bear).
Students will locate picture to describe their animal to include questions like: What does your animal eat? How does you animal protect itself from enemies ? What does your animal look like? Where does your animal live? Example:
Evaluation: When the activity is complete, the students should share with the class their findings. Objectives: 1.7 The student will investigate and understand the relationship of seasonal change and weather to the activities and life processes of plants and animals.
