First Grade

Introduction:

This activity is designed to help first grade students understand the physical properties of force and movement. The ideas in this lesson will help lay the foundation for exploration of concepts such as density and forces in the later elementary grades.

The Process:

I n this activity students will determine how force affects the motion of an object. At this stage of the game they need be encouraged to observe how force, incline and size of an object can change the distance of the object in motion. This will help students devise their own ideas about the  properties of motion and how they can be used to explain the movement.

The Task:

Students will watch 3 short videos from United Streaming then follow up with class discussion. After the discussion, students will go to Forces and Movement and play these  games.

Objective:

Force, Motion, and Energy

1.2        The student will investigate and understand that moving objects exhibit different kinds of motion. Key concepts include

a)      objects may have straight, circular, and back-and-forth motions;

b)      objects may vibrate and produce sound;

c)      pushes or pulls can change the movement of an object; and

the motion of objects may be observed in toys and in playground activities.
