Grade level: 4th grade

Introduction
In fourth grade, the students’ reading and writing skills support an increased emphasis on content-area learning and utilization of the resources of the media center, especially to locate and read primary sources of information. To help support these objective, students will use technology to search, sort, produce and communicate a Poetry PowerPoint presentation. Students will use the resources from the internet as well as the media center.

The Task

Students will use Microsoft PowerPoint to present to the class 3 poems. They will…

  • designing a PowerPoint which will include the following items:
    • A nursery rhyme
    • An Original Poem
    • A poem by another author
    • Poems should represent the same theme….for example, if you were to select, “Humpty Dumpty” one theme from the poem would be, not everything in life can be fixed.
    • A picture to represent the theme of their poem
    • A title page to their presentation
    • An introduction to the PowerPoint explaining to viewers the themes of your poems

Process

You will be working individually. You alone will be responsible for:
Pictures, Graphics and Links: You will be responsible for all graphics on the PowerPoint, as well as overseeing the making of the links (poetry resources) Title and Introduction

 

Conclusion

After completing this project students will have accomplished individual projects reflecting on a variety of skills using PowerPoint including custom animations, slide transitions, inserting hyperlinks, and sounds. They will also have created an original poem.

 

Criteria

 Listed below are the criteria, which will be used to evaluate your PowerPoint presentation. Use this criterion to help you develop a well-written and technologically advanced PowerPoint Slide Show.

Content

·         2 poems, an original and a poem from the work of someone else.

·         Grammar and spelling accurate – use of grammar and spellchecker

·         Minimum of 3 slides not including title page, but including an introductory and closing slide.

·        Don’t forget a slide with a title page

Appearance:

·         Easily readable font

·         Good page balance of text, graphics, and objects

·         Colors complement, do not distract from the presentation

·         Background complimentary to text colors and graphics

·        Graphics support the poem

·        Creativity and artistry

Graphics:

  • Appear on more than one slide
  • Clip art
  • Word art
  • Scanned picture
  • Digital camera
  • Internet source
  • Imported element

Multimedia:

·         Transition (appropriate for slide)

·         Sound from clip gallery or another source (whale songs, or bubbles)

·        Hyperlink (optional, but recommended)

Presentation:

·         Timing appropriate for presentation type

·         Special effects and transitions ADD to presentation and are NON-DISTRACTING

·         Logical sequence of slides
