Library Information Skills.Kindergarten
Core skills 1-6 should be presented in a manner appropriate to
this grade. The librarian will work cooperatively with the classroom
teacher to achieve the kindergarten objectives.K.1
The student will explain the function of the library/information
center and its personnel.
Descriptive Statement: Emphasis is on defining what a library
information center is as well as naming the duties of its personnel
perform to help students and teachers.K.2
The student will determine the main idea and sequence of events.
Descriptive Statment: Emphasis is on answering questions about
the main idea and proper order of events after listening to a story.
K.3
The student will obtain information through a variety of
listening experiences.
Descriptive Statement: Emphasis is on gaining knowledge by
listening to nursery rhymes, fairy tales, poetry and factual
materials. Oral comprehension skills and the appreciation of
literature will also be enhanced.Skills Outlined in Virginia's

English K.5 The student will understand how print is organized
and read.
Hold print materials in correct position.
Identify the front cover, back cover and title page of a book.
Follow words from lef to right and top to bottom.
Match voice with print....

Use pictures to make predictions from story content.
Identify what an author does and what an illustrator does.
English K.12 The student will explore the uses of available
technolgy for reading and writing.
Research K.13 The student will begin to ask how and why
questions.
