Regular attendance is essential for success in school.  It is the responsibility of parents and guardians to insure that their child attends school regularly and on time.  The tardy bell rings at 9:00 a.m.  Students who enter class late are disruptive to classroom instruction.

Excused absences include illness and family emergencies.  Please call the Attendance Line at 703.730.5464 to leave a message if your child will be absent from school.  The recording you hear will be played first in English and then in Spanish.  If we do not receive a message from you about your child’s absence, an office staff member will attempt to reach you to verify the absence.  It is very important that the emergency card numbers be kept current.  A written excuse is required within two days after your child returns to school.  This note assures that your child’s absence is excused.

If your child must be absent (not due to illness) for more than 2 days, a written letter needs to be sent to the principal, one week prior to the expected absence.  Parents should not expect teachers to prepare assignments in advance when families choose to take vacations/trips on school days.

If you have any questions concerning attendance, please contact Mrs. Johnson in the front office at 703.680.7270 or johnsolx@pwcs.edu.
