Arrival & Dismissal Reminders

In our continuous effort to provide a safe and secure environment for our students and staff, we ask your support in following these guidelines when bringing your child to school and picking them up from school.

· Pets are not permitted on school property during the school hours outside of a vehicle. This is due to the health concerns related to fecal matter, the intense fear some children have of various animals and the risk of injury due to bites and scratches.

Skateboards, scooters, bikes or motorized ride-ons are not permitted on school property during school hours. Our school sidewalks were designed for pedestrian traffic only.
Older siblings picking up younger siblings must follow all school policies. Failing to follow school policies will result in that sibling being prohibited from coming on to school property.

Arrival

Students who walk to school should arrive no earlier than 8:45 a.m. Students who gather earlier than this can create an unsafe situation, as supervision is limited at this time. Students will not be admitted into the building until the first bell rings at 8:50 a.m. All students should enter through the front doors. All students must line up at the doors and wait for the patrol on post to let them into the building. However, in case of inclement weather, all students will enter through the cafeteria door and wait in the hallway until the bell rings.

Morning Arrival Procedures “DROP AND GO” AREA

When dropping off your child, you must enter in the Overflow Lot, which runs alongside Princedale Drive. You will then drive through that lot to a “Drop and Go” area by the sidewalk next to the Main Lot. There will be a staff member stationed there to assist children in quickly getting out of their vehicle and walking along the sidewalk to the school. The Main Lot is closed in the morning from 8:30 – 9:10 a.m. It is only used for Handicapped Parking if your vehicle has a DMV sticker visible. This Main Lot should never be used to drop off/pick up students.

Vehicles are not allowed in the bus circle located in front of the building between the hours of 8:45 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Remember: it is illegal to pass a school bus loading or discharging students. (Code of Virginia 46.2-844).

Afternoon Dismissal

When students are picked up at the end of the day, parents are to drive into the bus loop after buses exit at 3:35 p.m. Students will be waiting along the sidewalk with adult supervision. Parents may meet walking students on the front blacktop area.

Early Dismissal

If you are picking up your child prior to the end of the school day, a note should be sent to the teacher. Parents or authorized persons must report to the school office upon entering the building and sign out the child. For safety purposes, no child will be dismissed from the classroom without being signed out from the office. Students will only be released to those individuals listed on the emergency card with a photo ID. If the student returns to school on the same day, please escort the child to the office and sign him/her in.
