Mission Statement of the School Counseling Program at Christa McAuliffe Elementary:

It is the mission of the School Counseling Program of Christa McAuliffe Elementary School to recognize and respect the unique qualities of each student and guide all students toward academic, personal/social, and career success. By collaborating with other educators, the families of students, and members of the community, using a comprehensive guidance program, maintaining high expectations for all students, and addressing barriers to learning we aim to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and attitude to become effective learners and productive members of their communities.

Ms. Gaeta is the school counselor at Christa McAuliffe Elementary. She is at McAuliffe every day. School counselors work with all students in the school to help them do their best in school. They work with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom. They also work with parents, teachers, and administrators to help students to succeed in the classroom.

Counselors address all sorts of concerns, such as peer relationships, academic concerns, family issues, career exploration, middle school transition, self-control, behavior concerns, and developmental issues. Counselors can provide parents with developmental resources and referrals to services in the community.

Students can self-refer by filling out a referral notice and putting it in the counselor’s baskets or boxes throughout the school. Parents, teachers, and administrators may refer students to the counselor as well. If you have a concern or a question concerning your child, parents may call Ms. Gaeta at (703) 680-7270 to set up an appointment.
