Prince William County has begun a new Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth initiative. As a school and as a division, we are working towards ensuring all snacks are healthy for our students to consume. Please assist us in reducing the amount of sweets, sodas, and other non-nutritional food items and replace them with healthy food.  The healthy snacks you send for your child should be in age-appropriate portions.  Suggestions include fresh fruit, raw vegetables, string cheese, cheese and crackers, pretzels, a cup of applesauce, granola bars or yogurt.

Medication

Every effort should be made for students to take their medication at home.  If taking medicine at school is necessary, parents must deliver the medicine to school in the prescription container.  It must not exceed the expiration date.  PWCS policy does not permit students to transport medication to and from school.  A PWCS Medical Authorization form must be completed for school staff to administer medicine.  This form is available in the school clinic or by clicking on the link below.  Any changes in medication must be submitted on a new authorization form.  All medicines will be discarded on the last day of school if not picked up by the parent.

Illness

If your child becomes ill while at school or should have an accident, we will notify you by phone.  Any fever over 100° requires that a child be picked up from school and he/she may not return to school until fever free for 24 hours.  Be sure your child’s Emergency Card includes an up-to-date local emergency telephone number, so that you may be contacted promptly.  Please keep your children at home if they are ill.  We do not have the facilities or personnel to care for them.
