Students in grades K-2 are working on Fiction and
Nonfiction books. Kindergarten and
First Grade are working on being able to tell the difference between the
two. We are also finding out how
much information we can learn from nonfiction books. We are reading and recording our
information in a web or other kind of graphic organizer. Second graders are able to record their
information on their own. Many
even know what to write down before we talk about it! The students are excited about reading
their nonfiction books! Grades K-2 –
Grades 3 - 5
We are working in the Reference section of the
Library. The students are using
book encyclopedias instead of online encyclopedias to research
information. Third graders are
researching the continents, Fourth graders are researching an animal, and
Fifth graders are finding out about our fifty states. The students are getting first hand
practice using our book encyclopedias.
We are using the Information Management Research Process. They are learning a lot about their
subjects and practicing this research process. (To understand this research
process, click on the Information Management link at the top) Celebrate reading by viewing a

Accelerated Reader is a computer based reading recall
and comprehension program. Teachers
let the students know their reading level and students are to pick out books
on that level to read. When they have
finished reading the book, they take a five or ten question multiple choice
quiz on the book. It is very
important that the student reads the book carefully to successfully answer
the quiz questions. This program is
required in some classrooms and voluntary in others. Click here
to go to our Accelerated Reader Catalog. |
