RULES FOR MCAULIFFE PATROLS

·        Patrols that walk or are driven to school should be at their morning post no later than 8:35.  Patrols who are bus riders should be at their morning post no later than 5 minutes before the bus arrives.  In the afternoon, the patrols should go directly to post at the end of announcements.  Patrols at the Crossing area should be at their post at the time determined by the Crossing Guard.

·        Your duties begin when you reach the school grounds in the morning and when you leave school grounds in the afternoon.  However, if you observe an unsafe situation as you come to school it is a good idea to tell your sponsor.

·        The patrol must remain alert and check in all directions for traffic and students while on duty. Listening to radios, talking to friends, playing games or daydreaming is not allowed while on post.

·        Always wear your belt and badge while on duty.  It shows that you are a patrol.  It also tells younger students that you can help them.  If you forget your belt or badge, you must get a temporary one form Mr. Roehn and return it at the end of the day.

·        Your belt, badge and poncho are your responsibility.  You must keep them in a safe place and keep them in good condition.

·        Your belt and badge MUST be worn over your coat or sweater when wearing one.  The only time it can be hidden is under your patrol poncho in rainy weather.

·        The only time the badge should be removed from the belt is when the badge or the belt is being cleaned. Repeated removal of the badge will eventually result in the breaking of the pin.

·        If it is raining, you must wear your patrol poncho.  Patrol ponchos should be kept near your post for emergency situations.  When wet, ponchos should be hung on hangers in the Science Lab to dry.  At the end of the day, ponchos should be removed from the Science Lab, folded and put in your backpack and ready for the next day.

·        Read your handbook and keep it in a safe place.  You will need to bring it to all monthly meetings along with pencil and paper.

·        Grades must be C’s or better. School work always comes before patrol duties.

·        Attend all scheduled meetings and be prepared to recite the pledge to the Officer representing the Prince William County Police Department.

·        Please tell the Captains if you know ahead of time that you are going to be absent, so your post can be covered.  If you wake up ill, make sure your parents call and report your absence before 8:40 a.m. and let the office know that you are a patrol.

·        You must maintain a good attendance record in order to be a patrol.

·         If you have given a student a warning three times for the same thing, please get the student’s name and report him or her to your sponsor using the forms provided.

·        Patrols are expected to model good citizenship at all times.  (During the school day and on the way to and from school.)
